A Conversation on Black Motherhood

A familial conversation and literary review.

As an assignment for an English course, I had the creative freedom to do a comparative analysis between two novels. It was important to me that I did something more than just a regular essay. I wanted to create something that was tangible and meaningful, so I interviewed my own mother via a video podcast format. We discussed her experiences as a Black mother and compared them to the novels Our Nig by Harriet Wilson and The Street by Ann Petry. From this conversation, I learned that one can get so much from asking the right questions about everyday topics that do not receive everyday attention.
